Fred Laing Ridge Trail

A few kilometers past the village of Mica Creek a sign will indicate the turnoff for the Fred Laing Trail.

To the turnoff it is a scenic two-hour drive, 135 kilometers north from the town of Revelstoke.

The road to the trailhead crosses Tree Farm License (T.F.L) 55 and is subject to industrial traffic. Watch for logging trucks and/or other industrial traffic. If the road is active with this traffic it is suggested that you follow a radio controlled vehicle while traveling to the trailhead.

The Fred Laing Ridge Trail is approximately 2 kilometers in length ending at Gorge Lake. The upper, subalpine portion of the trail offers views of the mountains to the west and a spectacular view of Mica Dam. The Mica Dam rises 200 meters above the riverbed and is B.C. Hydro's third largest power producer.

A cabin situated beside the trail belonged to the now defunct Mica Creek Snowmobile Club. It received heaviest use during the construction years of the Mica Dam.

An alpine ridge (Fred Laing Ridge) can be accessed from the end of the trail at Gorge Lake. On a clear day Mt. Robson at 3954 meters, can be seen 130 kilometers to the northwest.

There is a user's registration box at the trailhead. Users are encouraged to sign in and comment on their experience; however, please note that it is not intended as a safety system.
