Approval of FL A32611 FDP Amendment 2001-#12 1. The Northwest Hardwoods amendment #12 to their 2001 to 2005 FDP for Forest Licence A32611 was approved by the District Manager on June 9, 2005. 2. As required by legislation, the licensee established a public review period extending from January 12, 2005 to March 12, 2005. During this time period, copies of the plan were available to the public for review at the Ministry of Forests office in Chilliwack. Throughout the review period, the licensee was compelled by law to seek input from stakeholders and public interest groups and to consider this input prior to submission of the final plan. 3. The amendment includes a total of 41 cut blocks planned in the Agassiz, Garnet Creek, Hope Flats, Mahood Creek and Vedder Mountain areas. The majority of the cut blocks consist of partial cuts with a range of different retention levels. Three cut blocks, at Garnet Creek, are planned to be clear-cut. Maps of the proposed cut blocks can be viewed as pdf documents in web links at the bottom of this page. 4. All of the cut blocks in the amendment are currently within the provincial forest, are part of the Fraser Timber Supply Area and are managed as areas of integrated forest use which includes harvesting and recreational pursuits. 5. Over the past 30 years, significant provincial government investment has been made to reforest and maintain plantations on Vedder Mountain. It represents one of the most productive growing sites in the province. 6. At the conclusion of the public review process, the licensee was required to consider the public concerns raised and indicate how these concerns and issues would be addressed in the plan. 7. Under section 41 of the Forest Practices Code of BC Act (FPC Act), the district manager reviewed the plan against two tests. The first test was whether the plan met the content requirements as laid out in the FPC Act and the second was whether the plan would adequately manage and conserve the forest resources of the area to which the plan applies. After determining that these two tests were met, the district manager was required, by law, to approve the plan.
