The mandate of the Forest Stewardship Program is to manage, protect and conserve the forest and range resources in a sustainable manner.
Our main focus is on:
- Forest health
- Timber Supply Review
- Monitoring of silviculture obligations including the FRPA Resource Evaluation Program.
Some of our key initiatives to date include:
- Our recent focus has been on the Forest Health Program. Presently we are planning and managing for Douglas Fir Beetle, Spruce Budworm and Mountain Pine Beetle infestations.
- FREP is up and running. FREP stands for FRPA Resource Evaluation Program. FRPA is the Forest and Range Practices Act. Based on a results based forest management context FREP measures and monitors all 11 specific forest values listed in FRPA.
- The Forest Stand Management Fund (FSMF) is a general fund to conduct basic silviculture activities in our district such as planting. This work is ongoing.
