Stewardship Program

Cariboo Stewardship ProgramThe mandate of the Forest Stewardship Program is to manage, protect and conserve the forest and range resources in a sustainable manner. Our main focus is on:

  • Forest health
  • Timber Supply Review
  • Monitoring of silviculture obligations including the FRPA Resource Evaluation Program.

Some of our key initiatives to date include:

  1. Our recent focus has been on the Forest Health Program. Presently we are planning and managing for Douglas Fir Beetle, Spruce Budworm and Mountain Pine Beetle infestations.
  2. FREP is up and running. FREP stands for FRPA Resource Evaluation Program. FRPA is the Forest and Range Practices Act. Based on a results based forest management context FREP measures and monitors all 11 specific forest values listed in FRPA.
  3. The Forest Stand Management Fund (FSMF) is a general fund to conduct basic silviculture activities in our district such as planting. This work is ongoing.
