Woodlot Planning Workshops 2005

FRPA Woodlot Planning Workshops were held across British Columbia in March 2005. These workshops were open to government staff, woodlot licence holders and consultants. They were presented jointly by representatives of the Ministry of Forests and of the Federation of BC Woodlot Associations.

These workshops were the second stage of a multi-year plan to make woodlot licence holders more self-reliant and to enable them to be more involved when discussing planning and practices with a professional consultant.

This plan has at least 3 phases:

1) 2003/04 – accomplished joint workshops on the new Woodlot Licence Planning and Practices Regulation (WLPPR) and FRPA transition;

2) 2004/05 – The Woodlot Planning Workshops focused on the Woodlot Licence Plan template and updated transition provisions under FRPA;

3) 2005/06 (proposed Oct - Nov 2005) - a joint workshop to have woodlot licence holders work on maps or Ortho-photos of their woodlot and record their management philosophy and local knowledge on the map. At the end of the workshop, woodlot licence holders would have a significant portion of their plan recorded, and have a better understanding of their performance requirements.

It is anticipated that these three phases will contribute to a simplification and streamlining of the FRPA planning process and clarify performance requirements to be achieved.
