Files are provided in two formats and at two resolutions. PC/Windows users will use the 'PC' versions, Macintosh users the 'Mac' versions. Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to describe:

  • the goals of FRPA and background leading to implementation;
  • FRPA policy framework;
  • How values such as visual quality, resource features, recreation features and wildlife values are protected, managed or conserved under FRPA;
  • How crown land roads can be used under FRPA; and
  • How members of the public, First Nations and other resource users can bring forward their interests on resource management under FRPA

Audience

This module will be of interest to members of the public, First Nations and those who use crown land for recreation, tourism, wildlife and other purposes. For example:

  • Recreation clubs who use public recreation facilities, sites and trails;
  • Tourism operators located near forest and range operations;
  • Trappers and guide outfitters operating around forest and range practices; and
  • Wildlife users.

Training Components

A two hour session consisting of audio-visual recordings, delivered in a number of locations in B.C. Components include:

  • The new framework
  • Getting involved
  • Recreation
  • Roads
  • Visual quality
  • Wildlife

A one page handout will be provided.

  • FRPA Training Poster illustrating the key concepts of the FRPA; and
  • Recordings will be available on the website for replay, self-study or delivery in conjunction with other workshops.

Why the change?

  • Describe the goals of the change
  • Describe the premises and process by which the changes were made

How is it changing?

  • Present the legal framework of the FRPA including Act and regulations

What is the FRPA Policy Framework (3-pillars)?

  • Describe the pillars and supporting foundation of the FRPA policy framework
  • Describe the values protected, conserved or managed under FRPA

How can the public, First Nations and others resource users get involved?

  • Describe how the public can get involved with FRPA, First Nations and other resource users will obtain information, and comment on proposed forest activities (e.g., review and comment on operational plans)
  • Describe the role of the Forest Practices Board (FPB) and how the public, First Nations and other resource users can contact and work with the FPB.

Recreation

  • Describe how trails, sites and facilities are managed and protected under FRPA:

Visual Quality

  • Describe how visual quality values are managed/protected/conserved under FRPA:

Wildlife and Trapping

  • Describe how wildlife values are managed and conserved under FRPA

Road Access

  • Explain the use of roads under FRPA to access Provincial forest land for non-industrial purposes
  • Outline opportunities to maintain and use roads on Crown land

Prerequisites

No prerequisites are required for this module.

Delivery

The Public, First Nations and Other Resource Users Information Session will be delivered in sessions of 30 to 100+ participants at locations across the Province. Equipment requirements to deliver this module include the following:

  • Room size-target 70-100+ participants in attendance; and
  • Projection equipment-LCD projector and sound equipment to project images and sound.
