Forest Practices Code Transition Training

In August of 2003, a number of regulatory changes were made that affected forest practices and set the stage for a more results based forest management regime in BC.

These changes:

  • clarified and streamlined requirements for planning, silviculture, harvesting, roads and administrative remedies;
  • established BC Timber Sales;
  • brought the new College of Applied Biology Act into force; and
  • brought the revised Foresters Act into force.

On December 17, 2002, streamlining amendments to the Forest Practices Code of British Columbia Act and regulations came into effect.

These amendments will reduce the number of transactions between government and licensees over a two-year transition period until the new Forest and Range Practices Act is fully implemented in April 2005.

By streamlining the existing code now, resource management practitioners can start working toward a results-based forest and range practices regime.

The Timber Harvesting and Silviculture Practices Regulation(THSPR) replaces the Timber Harvesting Practices Regulation and Silviculture Practices Regulation. The Operational Planning Regulation is replaced by the Operational and Site Planning Regulation(OSPR). As well, the following regulations were significantly revised:

  • Forest Road Regulation
  • Woodlot Licence Forest Management Regulation
  • Community Forest Agreement Regulation
  • Fort St. John Pilot Project Regulation
  • Administrative Remedies Regulation.

Minor changes were made to nine other regulations.

This Web site is designed to provide resource management practitioners with information they need to fulfil their legal obligations under the revised Forest Practices Code.
