Code Consultation Reports - For Historical Reference
With the release of the discussion paper A Results-Based Forest and Range Practices
Regime for British Columbia, the Government of British Columbia established a
three-part public consultation process. The public comment period ran from May 1 to June
30, 2002. The consultation process involved:
An MLA committee chaired by North Island MLA Rod Visser heard more than
250 oral presentations during public meetings in 13 communities around the province.
A technical process led by Dr. George Hoberg, head of the Department of
Forest Resources Management at UBC, met with 58 groups and individuals and received 133
written submissions.
A web-based public comment forum, managed by Professor Hoberg. The forum
attracted 170 users and posted 272 entries. The Web site itself recorded more than 88,000
hits.
Dr. Hoberg and MLA Visser presented their consultation reports on July 25, 2002.
