SPAR Enhancements released in September 2007 SPAR logo

SPAR Release 4.0 includes a re-write of the java code for the Seedling Request functionality.  During the re-write, several suggestions from SPAR users were incorporated.  Most of the changes to Seedling Request are ‘behind the scenes’, but you should notice some time-saving features.  This release also includes two new screens and several miscellaneous changes.

Updates to Seedling Request

  • The Seedling Request screen has been divided into sections.  In the first section, the fields have been rearranged slightly.  The Status field no longer has a drop-down box to select from.  Status defaults to Pending (PND) initially upon saving a seedling request.  A “Save Incomplete” button is now used to save an Incomplete Request.  There are no changes for setting the status to Approved (APP) or CAN (cancelled) or for deleting a .
  • The Tenure section can be expanded or contracted using the + / - link.  Only the Management Unit Type / ID fields (mandatory) appear when the section is reduced.
  • The Planting Site section requires the entry of Elevation Min / Max, Latitude and Longitude.  The SPZ A, SPZ B and BGC fields will be generated from spatial data when the user clicks on “Default SPZs”.  The SPZ A and SPZ B can still be selected from the drop down lists.  The SeedMap link will open SeedMap in a new window with the appropriate Seed Planning Zone layer(s), Biogeoclimatic zone/subzone layer and Elevation layer open.
  • The Sowing Details section now includes information on the Assigned Nursery (for ministry funded requests where the Requested and Assigned Nursery may be different) and the Latest Action Date.  Seedling Requests cannot be updated once that Action Date has been passed.  The order and tab direction in this section has also been altered so that you can tab from Stock Type down to Container Type, Stock Age, then Planting Year, etc. to
  • In the Additional Criteria section, there is now one Comment field, up to 500 characters.  Previously there were separate Licensee Reference and Request Comment fields.  Comments from those 2 fields in previous seedling requests have been merged in a datafix.
  • The Lot Selection screen layout has not changed, but the button at the end of the list now says “Select Lot” (which is pressed after clicking the radio button beside a particular seedlot).
  • After pressing “Select Lot” on Lot Selection, the Seedling Request screen appears again, but with a new section below Additional Criteria.  The new Selected Lot section has the same information and toggles as the Lot Selection screen.  The “Save Request” button must then be pressed to generate a Seedling Request ID and  save the request in the database.  There is no longer a Seedling Request Confirmation page.
  • Warning messages will appear at the top of the Seedling Request screen.  For example, if a privately owned surplus lot has been selected, the owner’s name and contact info is displayed.  The email address for the contact has been added.  Click on “Save Request” again as instructed when a message appears.

Override messages will  appear at the top of the Seedling Request screen.  Type your comments in the box or boxes and press either “Continue” to save the request or “Cancel Overrides” to go back and make an appropriate change in the request.  When you update a seedling request, you will notice that the Override comments are repeated from your previous entry to avoiding re-typing.

New Nursery Assignment screen for licensee funded seedling requests

  • Nurseries can now be assigned to a group of licensee funded seedling requests on one screen – the Seedling Request Nursery Assignment screen.  To access this screen, go to the Services Menu, which it can be found at the bottom of the list.  Use the appropriate filters to generate a list of seedling requests.  Then either type specific nursery acronyms next to each request and press “Updated Requests with Assigned Nurseries” or type in a Nursery, “Select All’ of the requests and press “Assign Nursery to all selected requests.
