Interior Seed Planning Zone Review

Over the past two years, the interior seed planning zones (SPZ's) have been under review. The Interior Seed Planning Zone Review has included input from both ministry and industry clients involved in tree breeding, orchard management, forest genetics, seed planning and silvicultural activities.

Two major recommendations are proposed as a result of this review:

  • incorporation of new orchard breeding zones into the interior SPZ structure (using species level approach), and
  • alignment of new interior class A SPZ's with BEC classification units.

Reports have just been mailed out and changes are currently being made to the Seed Planning and Registery System (SPAR).
