Home About Insect Listing and Classification Info Links

TO USE THIS SITE, enter a word or words into the search box and click the "SEARCH" button or hit your "Enter"” key. Search engine will list all pages having that word or words in them. Click on page you wish to view. For best results use insect common (e.g. "seed chalcid" - 8 hits) or Latin (e.g. "Megastigmus" - 8 hits) names or common names of trees (e.g. "Douglas-fir" - 20 hits). Search engine is not case-sensitive.

"INSECTS" button provides a listing, by tree species, of insects and other organisms of concern to conifer cone and seed production in British Columbia. Information on most of these can be found in this website. Insects are listed in two groups under each tree species: those that directly impact cones and seeds ("Cones") and those that have indirect effects ("Stems, foliage, etc."). Names are NOT linked to information pages but you can use the list as a reference for search words. Following the list is a standard taxonomic classification of the insects considered here (Order, Family, Latin and common names).

"INFO" button opens a document containing general information on the conifer cone and seed industry and tree breeding in British Columbia and a section containing important information about cone and seed insect ecology.
