The construction of STIM began in 1990 in response to the need for additional growth models in B.C. Dr. Mike Bonnor from the Pacific Forestry Center and Dr. Jim Flewelling, a forestry consultant from Kent, Washington, led STIM development with the endorsement of the B.C. Forest Productivity Councils and the Ministry of Sustainable Resources' Terrestrial Information Branch.
