Resolving Livestock/Wildlife Conflicts

Subject Areas East Kootenay Trench
This research supported the information needs of the East Kootenay Trench Agriculture / Wildlife Committee (EKTAWC) in fulfilling its mandate to develop a strategy to provide comprehensive, workable solutions to the agriculture / wildlife conflict in the East Kootenays. Specifically, the research and monitoring projects were designed to assist in resolving long-standing disagreements in the Rocky Mountain Trench of southeastern B.C. regarding appropriate allocation of forage among cattle, elk and deer.

Elk The research results formed the base of the EKTAWC's report to the three sponsor Ministries (Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Environment, Lands and Parks, and Forests) and will aid the Ministry of Forests and Range in fulfilling its role of supporting the strategic land use planning process.
