The Rate of Dispersal and the Effects of Diffuse Knapweed on the Structure and Function of an Artemisia/Agropyron Grassland in the Southern Interior of British Columbia |

This project consisted of two main parts: a study of the rate of invasion of diffuse knapweed into pristine grassland, and the subsequent effects of the presence of knapweed on other plant species in the community. The specific objectives of the rate of invasion study were to (1) determine the invasion rate of diffuse knapweed into a pristine Artemisia/Agropyron community; and, (2) to monitor the botanical changes of important forage species over time following knapweed invasion.
The specific objectives of the effect of knapweed on forage production study were (1) to determine the effect of different densities of diffuse knapweed on bluebunch wheatgrass production; and, (2) to determine the threshold density of diffuse knapweed which results in a decline of forage production.
