The Allelopathic Effects of Rough Fescue and Bluebunch Wheatgrass on the Germination of Diffuse and Spotted Knapweed

Contents Menu The objectives of this study were to investigate the possibility that rough fescue has an allelopathic effect on the germination of knapweed seeds. Specifically, the objectives were to (1) determine if extracts of rough fescue or bluebunch wheatgrass plant parts will reduce the germination of diffuse and spotted knapweed seeds; (2) to determine if green foliage, roots, new litter or old litter of the grasses reduced knapweed germination, and (3) to determine if germination response to the grass extracts was different for diffuse as compared to spotted knapweed.
