Riparian Management

Subject Areas Riparian area
Riparian ecosystems are valued for their diversity and abundance of species, and ecological links throughout the landscape. They protect water quality, stabilize soil and stream banks, regulate water temperature and provide other attributes for aquatic ecosystems. Livestock grazing can have a dominant influence in riparian ecosystems and must be prescribed to ensure maintenance of proper ecological function. Research projects have been designed to develop management tools for managing livestock in these sensitive ecosystems.
