Legislation

There are several pieces of legislation used to address invasive plants in British Columbia. The main legislation pertaining to invasive plants is currently held by the provincial government. The ministries and the links to their legislation are listed below. Also included is the federal legislation governing the approval and importation of biocontrol agents into Canada.

IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING PROHIBITED INVASIVE PLANT SPECIES:

In March of 2012, the new BC Prohibited Weed list was published (click here to view), and is also available on the Inter-Ministry Invasive Species Working Group website's EDRR page.
If reported anywhere in BC, these invasive plant species are candidates for the BC Early Detection Rapid Response Program.
