Harvesting and Silviculture Practices Section

Mandate

The Silviculture Practices Section ensures a balanced consideration of all forest values from stand establishment to pre-harvest planning.

The section provides advice and guidance to forest district staff and licensees to ensure successful establishment and maintenance of forests to a free-growing stage. The section also advises on stand management practices leading to the development of the desired future forest profile. Specifically, the section is responsible for developing provincial silviculture policies, procedures, operational standards and practices in the area of forest establishment, forest health and forest stand management. It is responsible for developing a silviculture strategy to ensure that government's goals are achieved.

The section is directly involved in developing and revising the legislation in areas relating to regeneration, stand management, and forest health, as well as developing contract procedures for silviculture operations.
