Operational Forest Health Information Management

Operational Surveys and Treatments

• survey and treatment types for various pests are described in specific Forest Health FPC Guidebooks.
• records for tracking the location, type and application date of surveys and treatments are kept in various databases including the Forest Health layer in the LRDW and RESULTS. 
• common data standards facilitate inclusion of other data not currently included in these corporate databases  

Hazard and Risk Ratings

• hazard ratings (susceptibility maps) for various pests are described in specific Forest Health FPC Guidebooks
• more detailed or current hazard maps have been created for some of the major bark beetle species and for the spruce weevil (Pissodes strobi)
• other hazard maps are under development for other pests like Armillaria root disease, Dothistroma, pine stem rusts, etc.
• hazard and risk assessments are done by silviculturalists who are preparing reforestation plans in order to accommodate known pest issues by selecting less susceptible species or using different silviculture treatments to minimize potential pest impacts.
• consult the regional forest health specialists for the most current hazard and risk ratings
